Piet is currently a director and shareholder of Holliday Corporation Limited, a Christchurch angel investment and start-up business development company and he is also the Director of the Engineering Management Programme at the University of Canterbury.

He holds the sole New Zealand rights for the La Salle Innovation Matrix,  a framework for thinking and innovation created by Roger La Salle.

Piet has worked in the consulting engineering, marine and aerospace industries for 20 years. Piet served some time as the Chief Engineer of an airline. During the transition period, Piet advised the South African defence industry on the commercialisation of technologies. A renowned "pracademic", Piet was involved with the establishment of the Engineering Management Programme at the University of Pretoria.

Piet was instrumental in the establishment of the Recovered Materials Foundation in Christchurch, using innovation to turn waste materials into business opportunities. He took the project from concept to being its founding CEO. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Canterbury Innovation Incubator.

Piet is a former Director of the Canterbury MBA Programme as well as an Associate Professor of Systems Engineering and a former Director of Technology Commercialisation at the University of South Australia. He is currently an adjunct associate professor in the Entrepreneurship Centre for Innovation and Commercialisation at the University of Adelaide.

Piet's interests are in angel investment in the high-technology sector, the management of engineering, innovation, commercialisation of technology, new venture growth and university-industry linkages.
